Chlamydia Symptoms on the Rise in Australia
Health authorities in Australia report that sexually transmitted diseases rose at a rate of approximately 10
percent last year, including a significant and continuing rise in people reporting chlamydia symptoms.
Authorities also noted the danger to women because of dangers to their reproductive abilities. Since chlamydia
symptoms often go unnoticed, many women don't even know they have it.
There is a well established link between chlamydia and ectopic pregnancies. Ectopic pregnancy is a medical
emergency caused when a fertilized embryo implants outside the uterus, often in the fallopian tube.
The bacterial infection passes unnoticed in up to 70 per cent of people, and is often considered a mild illness
even when it does cause symptoms.
Chlamydia is now the most frequently reported STD in Australia, with more than 58,000
cases.
