Meningitis

What You Need to Know About Meningitis

Meningitis is one of the most dangerous diseases a person can have. The illness itself is specifically a disease of the membranes in the body. The specific membranes that become inflamed when someone has this disease are the ones surrounding the brain as well as the upper spinal cord. The reason as to why these membranes usually become inflamed is because of an infection. The most well known symptoms of the illness are headaches, a fever, as well as an extremely stiff neck. The majority of meningitis cases are bought about by a virus, and not a bacterial infection.

Meningitis Symptoms

A lot of people make the mistake of making meningitis symptoms for the flu. Some of the most common symptoms of meningitis are an extremely high fever, extreme headaches, vomiting, seizures, a stiff neck, and loss of appetite. If you have a more serious infection of meningitis, then the symptoms can be much more serious.

Some of these more serious symptoms include:

  • leg pain
  • ice-cold hands and feet
  • abnormally pale skin tone

If you have any of these options you need to immediately go to a hospital to seek medical attentions. Meningitis is also common in many new born babies. If a new born baby comes down with meningitis they have an extremely high chance of dying.

There are many signs that can indicate whether or not a baby has meningitis. Some of these signs include poor feeding habits, constant and persistent crying, a bulge in the soft spot on the top of a baby’s head, and stiffness on the babies next.

There are also bacterial forms of meningitis. These forms of meningitis can be dangerous because they can easily spread from one person to another. The best way to prevent dying from meningitis is to go to a hospital immediately after you have any signs or symptoms of this nasty disease.

Meningitis Treatment

Some cases of meningitis are less serious and don’t need medical treatment. A lot of cases of meningitis on the other hand are more serious and can lead to death. If you think you have meningitis, you should go to a hospital immediately. The key to saving lives is treating meningitis early. If you let meningitis go untreated in your body for a long period of time it can often result in death. Early treatment is always the best way to prevent death from meningitis.
